Birth of the radio jockey

Before, World War II, announcers and newsreaders were relatively anonymous. It was only following the outbreak of war in 1939, that it was decreed that radio announcers give their names at the start of each news bulletin, so that listeners would become accustomed to their voices and be able to detect if the voice was being impersonated by the enemy in the event of invasion.
